Altair had caught a few squirrels and mice before he headed back to the clearing to drop off his prey. When he entered the clearing, he saw Maua twitching and heard her gently moaning. "Maua. Maua, wake up," he said as he gently nudged her side with his muzzle, hoping she was okay.

Maua stirred tears streaking her cheeks. She hid her face from Altair. She calmed herself slowly before peering up at him.

Altair saw her wiping her face, seeing the tear streaks down her fur but he didn't mention them. "Did you have a bad dream?" he asked her, gently resting his paw on her shoulder. He was secretly trying to feel her heartbeat to see how fast it was going though he knew it would be a bit useless within a few moments.

She nodded afraid to speak just yet. She leaned her head against his leg and sighed softly. "I'm sorry you had to wake me." She said softly having trusted her voice again.

"It's no problem. If someone has a bad dream, I just tend to wake them up and hope they're okay," Altair replied, sitting back. He rested his tail on her haunches, hoping that would be okay. "Are you...hungry again?" He motioned with his paw to the small pile he had made.

She looked at the food and licked her lips. "A little bit." She softly but didn't want to move . She was happy where she was with her head against Altair.

Altair swallowed back the lump in his throat from nervousness. He didn't know if she could feel his legs shaking a bit from her touch. He didn't know if he should move away or move closer to her but she had said she was hungry. The prey he had caught was only a few paces away but her touch just made him want to stay.
With a huge amount of effort, he got himself to go towards the prey though it was with a loss that Maua wasn't touching him. "Wh-what are yo-you hungry f-for?" he asked, stuttering.

Maya looked at the pile, seeing mice and berries. She sniffed a few minutes her head tilted a bit. "Hmm. Rabbit and some berries sound good." She said to him, the loss of touching him leave her feeling lonely.

Altair looked through his small pile, unable to find a rabbit. "Um...give me a moment. I'll catch one quickly," he said before running off, having scented one nearby. He was swift in his catch and kill, back in only a few moments. He gently placed the rabbit in front of Maua, his tail bringing over some of the berries he'd found. "Here ya go," he said, panting a bit.

Maua looked up at him and smiled. "Thank you." She said softly, before putting her muzzle down to eat some of the rabbit. "Why don't you grab some for yourself?" She suggested.

Altair looked at the small pile before taking two of the squirrels and a mouse. He laid down in front of her and started to eat, silently. He wasn't used to talking while he was eating but he took small bites in case Maua wanted to talk.

Maua watched him a moment before going back to her food. She had always been taught not to talk while she ate because it was rude.

Altair continued to pick his meal apart, leaving the best for last and putting the bones to the side to discard later. Though he knew it was slightly wrong, he liked hearing the nature around them; to be able to hear the wind blow and the bees buzzing, it made Altair calm and collected. It's why he had decided to go off on his own without his family. He closed his eyes as he chewed, listening to everything he could.

Maua listened to the birds chirping not far off, smiling because they seemed happy. She enjoyed listening to their songs and watching them flit around with each other. It calmed her and made her feel better.

Altair let out a small sigh after having finished his meal. Opening his eyes, he watched Maua a bit and decided to start another conversation. "If you don't want to answer, you don't have to but I'm just generally curious, Maua: what exactly happened that you were kicked out?" Altair asked. He hoped she wouldn't become startled by the question but if she was, he would be there to help her.
