Prologue
The sun rose slowly silhouetting the Tigeronda sitting there, his copper fur shining in the pale rose glow of the sun. He sighed heavily, the weight of ten worlds on his shoulders. He was worried, something that night had woke him from his slumber with his mate, and the feeling he got was a sense of dread. He sighed heavily as he watched the sun rise, squinting at the brightness of the sun. Something moving at the side of his vision caught his attention and he looked to his left to see what had moved so suddenly. He smiled when he saw his pregnant mate Vatten padding toward him, her belly swaying with the fullness of her pregnancy. She was very close to cubing again for the third time. His first two cubs by his love and mate two males, the oldest a dark bluish with dark stripes and a lighter undertone, when he finally opened his eyes they had been a bright green that contrasted against his darker complexion, they had named him Ular. Their second son was the opposite, silver with black stripes and an ice blue undertone, his eyes had just recently opened being the same color as his undertone, and he had been named L’Argent. The copper Tigeronda smiled as he thought about his two sons that were already here and purred when he thought of his third cub that was due anytime soon. “My love why are you here?” He asked when she got to his side and licked his cheek. “I came out to check on my mate and king.” She whispered softly. “What is bothering you Api?” She asked him lying down beside him. “I just have this weird feeling about today and it’s not a good one.” He told her looking back out at the half risen sun. Vatten looked up at Api slowly rolling over onto her back and pawing at his face softly. “Your feelings have never been wrong yet, so maybe this one is different.” She told him her paw cupping his cheek and drawing him close rubbing her nose against his as she nuzzled him affectionately. Api smiled and lay down with her, lying there with her until the early morning.
The copper colored Tigeronda sat on the top of the mound of rock known as High Stones and watched the scene lying out before him. High King Api watched the Tigeronda’s that sat at the bottom, their heads hung low while a lifeless Tigerobra lay at their feet. He slowly shook his head and sighed, his claws sheathing and unsheathing. He was trying hard to keep his anger in check, but he knew the consequence for the dead Tigerobra. He slowly closed his eyes trying to block the scene from his mind. He didn’t know what Flits and Aarde were thinking. Killing a Tigerobra was sure to cause a war with High King Tenebre. Opening his eyes he looked down his anger in check for the time being. He looked at the two young Tigeronda defenders of the kingdom. “Flits, Aarde, what have you to say for yourselves?” He said in his deep gravelly voice. “Sire we were protecting-“ Flits, the amber colored Tigeronda began. “YOU KNOW THE LAW!!!” Api said, his anger escaping his control. “You might have just caused a war between us and the Tigerobra’s.” He growled. “But High King Api, we were just trying to scare him aw-“ Aarde put in, not able to finish his sentence before claws ripped his flesh. “YOU KNOW THE LAW. NO ONE I MEAN NO ONE IS TO KILL TIGEROBRA’S BY NO MEANS. WHAT PART OF THIS DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND?” High king Api screamed at Aarde, after having leaped down from the top of High Stones. “I SHOULD HAVE YOUR HIDES FOR MY DEN FLOOR.” He screamed at the two, lashing out with claws that met flesh. “YOU KNEW THERE WAS A TREATY.” He roared, nodding to the group that had brought the two Tigeronda’s to him for punishment and they stepped forward to surround the two and the High King. “You know the penalty for this.” He growled disgusted with the fact that he had to discharge two of his best guards. “B-but, I have a mate and cubs.” Aarde protested loudly. “WHY DIDN’T YOU THINK OF THAT BEFORE YOU KILLED HIM?” He roared again, his eyes black and his claws shining with the blood that he had already taken from the two. “I- I’m sorry my King.” Flits said softly hanging his head greatly ready for his punishment. “You are both stripped of your rank.” He began and listened to Aarde roaring and fighting against the other guards that encircled them. “Stripped of your family, your cubs and your home.” He roared, loudly to be heard over Aarde who quieted at the words Api said. “You are to be taken out of the kingdom, to the desert to be left, with no food or water.” Aarde began roaring again and the guards he fought against began clawing and biting him, until he was lying on the ground almost dead. “If you manage to survive and make it back, you may live among us as a loner and never be able to mate again. You will be known to all as traitors to your kingdom and me by the scars you wear. As you will not have anyone around nor will you be permitted around others. You will be a burden to the kingdom and none shall help you.” He growled looking away and signaling for them to be carried off. He sighed softly gathering himself and turning around to leap back up on the high stones and pad to his den and to his pregnant mate, Vatten. Slowly padding to the entrance of the den and smiling as he saw his mate laying there sleeping. His eyes began to return to their normal blue. He padded over to his mate and licked her cheek softly. “I love you.” He whispered softly in her ear and lay down beside her. She slowly lifted her head to lay it on Api’s paws and purred painfully. “You were a little harsh on them don’t you think?” She asked knowing that Api wouldn’t get angry with her. “It is the agreements of the Treaty on both sides, yet that doesn’t matter now anyway. Tenebre will want a war for the insolence of those two.” He grumbled. Vatten grunted her agreement wincing as a great pain washed over her, knowing that her time to cub was upon them. “Api, get the healer, the cub is coming.” She said painfully her breathing labored. Api nodded getting up and padding to the nearest guard. “Fetch the Healer and quickly.” He told the guard, returning to his mate’s side. “I’ve sent a guard to fetch Messier.” He said and lay beside her to wait out the long labor ahead.
Hours later Api padded back into the den to be greeted by the yowling of a hungry cub. He hesitated at first, waiting for his mate to grant him entrance. He knew how protective mothers were of their young. “Api?” He heard Vatten say and knew that it was safe to enter the den. Api padded into the den and smiled at his mate, coming to her side and peering over. He couldn’t help the purr that rose in his chest at the little tan fur ball with its darker stripes and white undertone that squirmed at its mother’s belly. “It’s a male.” Vatten whispered into his ear. Api looked at her surprised. “What shall we name him?” He asked with excitement edged into his words. Vatten looked at the little cub for a few minutes, silently contemplating the cub’s name. “How about Joseph-Hunter?” She asked looking up at Api. “That’s perfect.” He purred and nuzzled his mate while watching their third son.
A year had come and gone, Ular was now old enough to go out on his own and hunt with his younger brother L’Argent. His father was gone a lot so he ending up learning to hunt from his mother. L’Argent and he were tracking down a hurt doe, when he caught the scent of smoke in the air and turned in all directions, seeing the smoke coming from home between the trees. “NO!!!” He screamed scared, yet speeding off towards home, very aware of L’Argent hard on his heels. They soon broke cover of the trees to see Tigeronda’s and Tigerobra’s waging war. He franticly looked for his father when his mother came running toward him with his youngest brother Joseph-Hunter in her mouth. Her eyes were wide with fear as she approached them. “Mother what’s going on?” Ular asked. “Not enough time to explain.” She panted. “Here take your brother and run far away. Don’t look back. Promise me you will protect them and make sure they are happy. You are king now Ular.” She said. “Now go, I’ll keep them from following you.” She roared as a white and orange Tigerobra jumped on her back. “GO!!!” She roared. Ular coming out of his shocked state, turned with Joseph-Hunter in his mouth and L’Argent followed him. They ran swiftly through the forest near their home, tears stinging his eyes. He never looked back as they ran into another Tigeronda kingdom.
Two days after they had fled from their home, Ular decided they were safe enough to stop. He looked at Joseph-Hunter and smiled a bit as his youngest brother slept soundly. “L’Argent, I need you to go hunt. We have to teach Joseph to eat meat. We have to teach him everything now.” Ular said softly looking at his other brother, who nodded and began to pad away. He watched as L’Argent disappeared in the brush before turning back to Joseph. He watched his youngest brother a while, then started to cry. “I can’t believe I’ll never see them again. I will be strong for you both.” He said to Joseph who he knew couldn’t understand yet. “I promise you that mother and father. I’ll die before I let anything happen to them.” Ular looked around as L’Argent padded back into the clearing with two rabbits in his mouth. “L’Argent, I’m going to need your help to teach Joseph. Mother and father are gone. We are all each other have anymore.” He whispered softly and they settled down to eat and teach Joseph. Ular watched as Joseph slept and heard L’Argent, who had moved some distance from his brothers, as he began to cry. Ular looked at L’Argent, before grabbing Joseph up and padding over to his other brother and lay down with the two. Ular gently nuzzled his brother who cried harder into Ular’s fur. “I know brother. I miss them too but at least we still have each other. Ular lay there soothing his brother until L’Argent finally fell asleep and Ular pulled Joseph into his paws and lay his head down to sleep with his brothers. For the next morning would be much the same Ular realized. Soon the three were sleeping soundly, despite the heartache and pain that was still to come.

Chapter 1
Ular watched as the cubs around him coward and looked at him with wide terrified eyes. He smiled a bit at the fact the cubs only thought the story to be myth and not true at all. “So High King Api slashed at the High King Tenebre of the Tigerobra and grinned as blood welled up from his wounds. He did not know what had happened to his mate High Queen Vatten or his three sons, but he hoped they were okay.” He continued. “But while he was distracted with thoughts of his family the High King Tenebre toke advantage and sliced High King Api’s throat and roared for all to here.” Ular smiled as Terbang cawed and the cubs all jumped. “With that High King Api took his last breath.” Ular finished laughing. “But what happened to his sons?” A young pale cream colored cub asked. By the cubs smell it was a male and a bulky male at that. “Well that is another story for another day.” Ular said looking at the cubs. “Now it’s time for you to get back to your mothers.” He said nodding to the back of the cave at the females that stood there with Terbang waiting on their cubs. Ular smiled at the cubs as they raced off to their mothers. He enjoyed his High King duties of cub sitting, though he had none of his own and was still a little young to take a mate for himself. He wanted to be with Landi, only to find out that he was betrothed to Kesa, King Remaul’s daughter and found out that his father High King Api had arranged it shortly after he had been born. “Terbang, any news on Princess Kesa’s arrival?” He asked the loyal crow that was slightly scarred on his right side from fighting alongside High King Api. “None sire, but I must say your storytelling is very good. The cubs were enthralled.” Terbang said to his king. “If only they knew how true that story is.” He whispered softly looking over at Terbang. “Now to business.” Ular said. “I want you to fly to King Remaul and tell him that Princess Kesa has yet to arrive. Also send out a few of the soldiers to search for her in case something happened.” He ordered. “Yes sire. I will do so now.” Terbang answered opening his four foot wing span and hoping up into the air currents swiftly gaining altitude. Ular watched his friend as he got farther and farther from view as he soared through the sky toward the south. Ular sighed softly. Landi watched from the bushes. She watched as Ular stood up with a heavy sigh and frowned. She moved slightly ruffling the bushes as she did and saw Ular’s head snap up. “Who’s there?” He called, raising his muzzle to the air to smell. “Landi you can come out now.” He said looking straight into the bushes. “How did you know it was me?” Landi asked softly. “I made sure to stay downwind so that you couldn’t catch my scent.” She whispered. “I always know where you are. Your scent carries whether there is a wind or not Landi.” He said smiling but then looking past her at the guards that were approaching them. “I’m sorry I must go, Princess Kesa is missing.” He said stepping around her to pad toward the guards. Landi growled softly as he approached the guards, she hated Kesa. She slowly got up and started padding off. “Good luck finding her.” She mumbled in a low growl. Kesa had stolen Ular, the only male she ever loved. She disliked the fact that Ular was to marry Kesa. Kesa may have been a princess, but Ular was High King, couldn’t he overthrow his father’s arrangement. She sighed as she walked away.
Ular looked at the two guards that approached him as he walked away from Landi. He glanced back when he heard her growl only to see her padding in the opposite direction. He sighed heavily knowing the guard would not hear him. ‘Why father? I love her not Kesa.’ He let out another sigh, and looked up as Phantom his captain of the guards approached. “Well what have you found?” He asked the albino Tigeronda. Phantom dipped his head to his king and took a breath. “We found quite a bit of blood on the border into Ragiii district sir. We don’t know if it is Princess Kesa’s or a rogue who tried to attack her.” Phantom took a deep breath and looked up at Ular, who he met some years ago. He slowly awaited punishment or a scowling yet none came as he watched Ular with his head hanging. “Sir? What do you want us to do?” Phantom asked after a few minutes had passed. Ular looked up at the albino and sighed softly. “I will have to go find her.” He replied looking at the shocked expression on Phantom’s face. “But first I must find someone and speak with them as well as call a meeting for all to hear of the news.” He said, flicking his tail as he got up to dismiss them. “But High King Ular, what about your safety?” Phantom sputtered, racing forward to pad side by side with Ular. “Phantom, as you well know, I and my brothers spent many moons out on our own as the war between my father and High King Tenebre waged for 10 long years.” Ular replied, remembering that time all too well, Joseph had gotten bigger than L’Argent in that time and looked up to them both, but even after Terbang found them and told Ular of the news that his father had fallen yet the rest of the kingdom still fought for him, losing in the end, Ular knew then that he was the High King and ruler and had sent Terbang back to the battlefields to call all surviving Tigeronda back before the chaos stole them all. Ular had to then tell his brothers and that was hard on its own. L’Argent had cried and Joseph didn’t know what to do, he had never known his father or mother yet Ular and L’Argent had talked of them often. However the good news that Terbang had brought was unexpected. His mother had survived and fled, where to he did not know, but he had left that bit out when he told his brothers the news. Ular was suddenly brought out of his revere as he heard Phantom talking trying to get his attention. “What is it Phantom?” Ular said slightly annoyed. “Sir, I know that you and your brothers endured so much hardship at a young age, but you are my king and a brother to me.” He said softly. “You saved me from the threat of the wolves many years ago and since then I have been nothing but loyal and looked to you as my older brother, but I will not let you go on this quest alone. I and Stephano will accompany you.” Phantom said, standing tall to Ular, bent on his decision. Ular looked him up and down, and then smiled at the albino. “And for your courage to stand up to me, I’ll grant you both the wish to accompany me brother.” Ular said. Now I shall return in three days’ time. I must seek out an old friend of mine. I need you to gather the kingdom at High Stones for the meeting when I return. And when Terbang returns, tell him to seek me out so that I may converse with him about what I find out.” Ular said nodding to Phantom, who bowed his head and watched as Ular padded away.
Little did Ular know the danger that he would have to go through to save her. Kesa lay in the hollow at the base of a Cyprus tree unconscious but dreaming vividly of Ular and his quest. She suddenly stirred from her fitful slumber lifting her head too quickly, only to groan at the throbbing that was there. She slowly put her head back to the ground and closed her eyes to make the throbbing ease slightly, before trying to open her eyes. When she finally got them completely open she glanced around at her surrounding, seeing that the prison she was being held in was solid and all natural. She continued to look around slowly getting to her paws, wincing as she felt the stinging that accompanied the action. She turned her head to the left to look at what was causing so much pain, only to find a deep gash on her left shoulder and down her back, which was oozing a green liquid from the infection she could smell coming off the wounds. She looked back around and was startle by the Tigerobra that stood not far from her, but she hadn’t heard approach. “Nice to see that the infection didn’t kill you.” He said smiling warmly, slowly picking his way over to her. She watched him with a careful, untrusting gaze taking his appearance in as he approached her. She watched the way he walked, seeing that he had a small limp in his front right paw. “You can quit watching me now. I’m not here to hurt you, I’m a prisoner myself, forced to use my healing talents to help these rogues. And I’m here to help your wounds, to treat the infection and …” He stopped looking around before leaning in closely and whispering “to cure the poison that they put in your bloodstream when they attacked you. That would be why your head is hurting so badly.” He said softly padding to her left and looking over her wounds. “Who are you?” She tried to ask but no more than a squeak came out, making her cough wildly. She slowly calmed her coughing and took a breath before trying to speak again, trusting her voice this time. “Who are you?” She asked softly, knowing the Tigerobra had heard by the way he gave her a sideward glance. He chuckled and looked at her. “Your father must not have said much about me. My name is Kurjak.” He said gently pressing her down to the ground with his massive paws. “Be very still, this is going to hurt.” He told her, giving her just a sec to brace for the pain she knew was coming before she felt his tongue rasping deeply into her wounds to put the poultice deep enough to kill the poison and heal her infection. She yelped at the pain, tears stinging her eyes and searing heat burning her insides making her suddenly vomit. “I’m sorry about that, I had to get everything deep enough so that your will start healing.” He said softly licking at the water that trickled into the prison at the back of the tree. He lifted his head and gurgled the water before spitting it far into the corner. “There now that I have rinsed my mouth clean of the infection. Your wounds should heal slowly and they will burn. I’ll be back later to check on your fever.” He said starting to padded back the way he’d come. “Wait!” She called, but he was already gone. She slowly slid back to the ground to rest her head, which was throbbing but not nearly as bad as it had been. She shivered, even though there wasn’t a breeze to make her cold. She soon fell into a fitful sleep again the black Tigerobra coming to her dreams.
Kurjak heard her cry for him. He knew she had so many questions to ask, one being where she was. He sighed deeply as he looked up at their captor Nopalxochitl and said simply, “If you wish her to live, I will have to come back every day for an hour of soon to keep her wounds cleaned and tomorrow longer to scrap them or the dead flesh will become infected and poison her further.” He looked Nopalxochitl square in the eye daring the young but well-built female to challenge his, a healers, words. But he smiled inwardly with satisfaction when she said nothing but turned and begin to pad off. “Come on Kurjak.” A pretty jade colored Tigeronda said, nudging him softly in the flank trying to ease him toward his prison. “Camile, why do you stay here with these dangerous rogues?” He asked her started to move forward on his own. Camile looked at him, contemplating his question for some time before answering. “The answer to that is, because I have nowhere else to go and Nopalxochitl was the first nice and honest Tigerobra I met. However much I regret joining them now, where could I go Kurjak?” She asked him, her eyes filled with sorrow. He watched her, his heart breaking at the sadness he saw in her. He had come too really like this lovely Tigeronda with no stripes. She was nice to him. Out of all the rogues that stayed here she was the only one that had shown any kindness or care for him. “Have you ever thought of going to High King Ular? He is honest and fair. I’m sure once he heard your story he would allow you to join his kingdom.” Kurjak said softly. “He was good to make when I was younger. He made me a healer and helped me become what I am today by being nice to me and having his royal healer teach me all I know.” Kurjak went on, sighing softly. He hadn’t seen Ular for about 5 years now and he missed the King. Camile looked at him shocked at what he had said but knew that his logic made sense. She turned her head to look in front of her, watching Kurjak out of the corner of her eye. ‘Maybe he’s right.’ She thought. ‘Perhaps I should go find High King Ular and help him find Princess Kesa and Kurjak.’ This thought echoed in her head as they walked. She kept Kurjak in the corner of her eye as they walked, the silence between them stretching as they walked. She smiled inwardly at how strong and handsome he was, but she shook the feeling away. ‘Why would he want someone like me?’ She thought sadly. Kurjak slowed to a stop, wincing as he put his weight on his right paw, the scars there were inflamed and hurting, from the infection he had just recently got over. Camile looked back at him after she realized she had pulled ahead of him. “Kurjak are you okay?” She asked turning and padding back to him, concern filling her face and eyes. He tried setting his paw back on the ground again and almost yelped from the pain that had increased in a few seconds. “I need to rest for a few minutes.” He said, pain edging his voice. He stood there for a few minutes with his paw raised off the ground, waiting for the pain to recede before attempting to put it on the ground again. “Alright I’m ready to go again.” He said to her, allowing her to walk ahead of him. He watched her walk in front of him smiling a bit to himself, his heart swelling with affection for her. He stayed close as they walked.
Ular padded swiftly through the dense forest, his claws unsheathed and senses alert for this was dangerous territory. The trees grew thick here, their roots tangling together making the forest floor hard to walk on, the canopy was thick with few holes and allowing little light to enter the forest at all. Ular padded through this forest with confidence, not startling at the slightly noise of a snapped twig or a crunch of every leaf. He felt he was in no danger here, until he heard the snap of a large branch and felt the presence of eyes watching him, but he didn't slow his pace or stop, for he knew who the culprit was and he was determined to make this mysterious Tigeronda to approach him first. Ular continued his trek through the forest with no light, nothing making him feel fear or shudder at all. He listened as the mystery Tigeronda moved in circles around him, when he finally heard a faint whisper. “Why are you here?” Come from somewhere to his right. “You know why I’m here Neraka.” Ular said looking into the darkness with a sigh. “You can come out now.” He said, watching as the scarred Leoparonda stepped out of the darkness in front of him. Ular gave a small inward shudder, remembering how Neraka got her scars. “What do you want young king?” She asked a bit bitterly before padded closer to him. “I need your help Neraka.” Ular stated simply looking at her, remembering how beautiful the Leoparonda used to be. He shuttered as the images of how she was tortured came to his mind. “What do you need my help with Ular?” She asked looking at the young male, her half-brother not knowing that they were related. She watched as Ular shuddered, hoping that it was fear that made him shudder, not the sight of her scars. “I need you to help me find Princess Kesa.” Ular stated softly, a little sympathetic to Neraka’s feelings. “Can you help me?” He asked now with more conviction. “Ular you know that I can’t find her, but I can tell you her general location. She is something in the Kasar forest.” She told Ular. “But beware there are many dangers you will face and must overcome if you wish to succeed.” She said getting up and turning back into the darkness. “Neraka, why won’t you come with me and be part of my kingdom?” Ular asked as she padded away. “Because none will accept me with the way I look.” She said quietly looking over her right shoulder at him. “I believe that my people would.” He said softly getting up to leave. “Thank you Neraka.” He said and was gone. She looked the way he had disappeared and whispered. “Maybe one day I will come out brother, but not today. Goodbye for now brother be safe.” She whispered to the nothingness, before allowing the darkness to swallow her again and conceal her in the harshest of places, the Bezdan Forest.

Chapter 2
Ular had been traveling for a few hours now and knew the edge of the Bezdan Forest was close by how thin the canopy was becoming. He sighed, his paws heavy with fatigue. He slowed down looking for a spot to lie down and rest for a while, when he heard the sound of flapping wings above the trees. He looked up in the gap of the canopy to see Terbang coming toward him, the air making him float. Ular sat down where he stood and waited for Terbang to land safely. Terbang’s clawed feet touch the soft ground and he clutched a foot full of the ground while he folded his wings and looked up and Ular. “Sire? You asked me to find you?” He asked softly a bit frightened by the forest he was at the entrance too. Ular looked at the crow and smiled. “Yes I did.” He said softly, watching Terbang hop from one foot to the other. Ular got up and padded away slowly, circling in the hollow of two roots. “Sir? May I ask what it is you needed?” Terbang asked his voice shaking. He hopped over to Ular, looking around nervously as he did so. “Terbang are you alright?” Ular asked when he noticed how the crow was acting. “N-no sire, this is the Bezdan Forest. This place scares me.” He said softly. He shivered at the thought, feeling eyes on his back. “Okay well then I need you to deliver a few messages.” Ular said laying his head on his paws and sighing. “First message is to Phantom and Stephano; tell them I should be returning home tonight and that we will begin our quest at midday tomorrow. Second is for my brothers, telling them that I need them to meet me at High Stones tonight so that I can tell them what is going on.” He said looking up at Terbang to make sure he was still listening. “And last is for Landi, tell her to meet me tomorrow morning so we can talk.” Ular said this and closed his eyes. “Is that all sire?” Terbang asked looking at Ular nervously, his feathers ruffled as he was itching to leave this forest far behind. “Hmmm?” Ular said opening his eyes a moment to rename who he needed to speak with and nodded to Terbang. “Yes that is all Terbang. You may leave now.” Ular said before settling his head back on his paws and closing his eyes. The last thing he remembered was the flutter of wings as Terbang took off to do as he was told.
Terbang flew quickly out of the Bezdan Forest, his feathers ruffled by the fear that he felt for the place. The encounter with the unknown Leoparonda still fresh in his mind as if it had happened yesterday. He hadn’t told Ular about the encounter because he didn’t want to worry the High King. It had been about three years since the encounter had occurred and he was still terrified by the forest. And if he had to fly in the direction of the forest he normally found an alternate route which took him longer but made him safe, however this time he didn’t have a choice because he had to find Ular as he was instructed, but he was happy to be leaving the forest far behind now. Terbang looked at the canopy of the forest that zoomed by under wing in a blur and stopped something unusual. He tilted his head to one side as he dipped down lower. As Terbang got closer he knew what he had seen. It was Phantom walking through the forest with another Tigeronda that Terbang didn’t recognize. The Tigeronda was odd in a way; she was orange with a snake pattern not stripes. Then it dawned on him, she was a rare reticulated Tigeronda that High King Api had spoken of once a long time ago. Terbang decided he would pay the captain of the guard a visit now and tell him what Ular had instructed. He swooped low, cawing to get the captains attention before landing in a tree not far away. Terbang preened his feathers while he waited for Phantom to pad up to him with his mate. "Hello Captain. Lovely day out isn't it?" Terbang asked smiling. "Why yes Terbang it is. I don't believe you have met my mate, Nadir?" Phantom said sweeping his tail toward his mate. "Nice to meet you Nadir." Terbang said bowing a bit. "H-hello." Nadir said shyly. She hid behind Phantom, her cheeks slightly flushed. “You do know that you are the mate of the most esteemed captain and best soldier of the Royal Guard, don’t you?” Terbang asked her cocking his head to the side to look at her with one eye. Nadir looked at the large crow and nodded. She was afraid to speak anymore to the crow for fear of her thoughts being told to the world and especially High King Ular. “Terbang? Do you have a message for me?” Phantom asked after he saw the look on his mates face. “Ah, yes Captain I do. High King Ular said that he will return tonight and your journey will begin at midday tomorrow. I trust you to pass this message on to your soldier Stephano.” Terbang told the Captain. “Of course. Thank you Terbang. I must leave you now to prepare for the journey and find Stephano.” Phantom said, drawing his tail around his mate and beginning to walk away. Terbang simply nodded and took off into the air again to look his King’s brothers and deliver the message.
Landi shook her head seeing the empty hangatberry bush. Her supplies of them were low and she needed them, but her luck was not looking good. She had found six hangatberry bushes empty of berries. She growled, “Darn scavengers. They are always taking the berries.” She muttered to herself. She sighed softly because she knew that she was upset for other reasons. Her love for Ular was growing and she couldn’t be with him which hurt. Now he was going to rescue Kesa. ‘What am I going to do now? I don’t want any other male but him.’ She sighed again at her thoughts. Suddenly she was brought out of her thoughts when rustling in the bushes not far from her drew her attention. “Who’s there?” She called, receiving no answer. Slowly she made her way over to the rustling bushes. She saw how much the bushes were moving and knew that whatever was in them was big. Then to her surprise a copper Tigeronda jumped out in front of her, the Tigeronda’s claws were extended and teeth were bared. Landi jumped back, unsheathing her own claws as she did so. “Who are you and why are you here?” She growled menacingly, her claws digging into the ground as she waited for an answer. Tembaga looks at her, his sight blurring as he watched her. “I- I’m…” Before he could answer he started to sway and hit the ground with a hard thud. Landi watched and shocked she grabbed the herbs she had already collected and race over to his side. Landi looks the young male up and down his right side, seeing no cuts of any kind on him, but seeing the blood spreading in the grass beneath the male. She slowly puts her muzzle under his side and rolls him over gently. As she does, blood from a deep wound on his left flank splashes onto her pelt. She quickly grabbed the Merendamweb she had collected earlier and began applying it to the gash. Then she heard the caw of Terbang. “Terbang, go get help.” She yelled up at him. Terbang looked down at her. “But I have a message for you from High King Ular.” He called down to her. “You can deliver you message after you get help and I can get him stable. NOW GO!!!” She roared to the crow. Terbang flinched immediately turning around and flying toward High Stones. Terbang hadn’t known how fierce Landi really was until she had to help someone. He looked at the ground, finally spotting Stephano. He swoops down in front of Stephano. “Come you must help.” Terbang panted softly.
Landi paced beside the young male Tigeronda when she suddenly heard Terbang caw and the bushes to her right rustle, Stephano emerging from them. “About time.” She growled. “Help me get him home to my den. He is badly wounded.” She said toward the thick guard. She helped Stephano get the male onto his back, where the injured Tigeronda laid snugly. “Okay let’s go, just be careful to not bump him much, he has lost a lot of blood.” She told the guard, who nodded and began to run at a soft pace. Landi was surprised at how graceful Stephano was on his feet, his body not jarring in the least with his gait. She snapped out of her revere and was soon dashing after him with her herbs in her mouth. Landi drew up behind Stephano as he waited at her den. She huffed, the run here having taken her breath away. She knew she had to save this young male. He was badly wounded and she wasn’t sure how or when. “Stephano take him in and sit him down gently.” She told the massive golden Tigeronda. Stephano nodded and padded into Landi’s den with the Tigeronda on his back, he could smell the blood that was coming from the young one. He lay down, slowly rolling so that the young one could slide off his back gently. When the young Tigeronda was on the floor Stephano got up and turned to pad out of the den. “Landi he is on the floor of the den.” Stephano said before padding off into the woods again. Landi looked at Terbang. “What did you have to tell me?” She asked impatiently. “Hurry up I have a patient to see.” She said, looking at the crow and glancing at her cave. “High King Ular told me to tell you he is sorry for the pain that his betrothal to Princess Kesa has caused you and he wished that he was going to be with you. He said if you no longer wish to be his friend, he understands and maybe one day that the two of you will be together.” Terbang said repeating High King Ular’s words exactly how they were said. Landi looked at Terbang but quickly looked away, trying to hide her tears from the raven. “Please tell him I still want to be his friend and that I love him and always will.” Without giving Terbang time to react or reply Landi was up and padding away into her den. She let her tears fall, knowing that Ular had been sincere when he told Terbang those words. She wished it had been her that he had been betrothed too. Landi sniffled a minute before padding over to her patient, seeing the shallow rise and fall of his side as his breathing was fading away. She quickly set to work; she had very little time to save this Tigeronda. She padded to the small bush near the back where she had dug holes to keep her herbs and keep them fresh. She sniffed each hole, looking for the sweet tangy scent of the kayo berries that would help this Tigeronda’s wound clot. She had checked seven holes already when on the eighth hole she found them. She reached her paw down into the hole and pulled out several kayo berries grabbing an olden leaf in her mouth and hobbled back to the dying Tigeronda. She laid the olden leaf down and put the kayo berries on it, with her toes she started to mash the kayo berries up on the olden leaf. When she had a good paste of kayo berries she scooped it up with her tongue, and removed the merendam web from his wound. Slowly she places her paws on him holding him down with her weight and put the kayo berry paste into his wound. She covered his wound with the paste, feeling him jerk up. She watched as his eyes opened and he began to struggle. “Stop moving so that I can treat your wound and you may keep your life.” She growled at him, shocked when he quit struggling. She scooped up some more of the paste putting more into his wound so that it would all seep into his wound and clot the wound. When she was finally satisfied she went back to her herb storage after telling the young male not to move a muscle. She sniffed again and caught a whiff of the darah berries that she need. Their bitter smell stinging her nose slightly, but she reached in the 2 foot hole and pulled out six of the berries. She put them on an olden leaf and carried them back to her patient. “Eat these.” She said softly now. “You have lost a lot of blood and these will replenish it.” She told him, watching him and making sure he ate the berries. “Why are you helping me?” He asked finally speaking calmly. She looked at him and sighed. “I’m a healer and it’s my job to help those in need. Would you rather I had left you to bleed out and die?” She asked a little harsher than she had intended. He shook his head frantically. “I’m grateful. Thank you.” He said closing his eyes through the pain. “Where am I?” He asked through gritted teeth. “You are in High King Ular’s kingdom.” She answered going to get some menenangkan berries from her stores. Returning with them she gave them to the young Tigeronda. “What is your name?” She asked him. “I’m Tembaga….” He trailed off the menenangkan berries instantly soothing him into a deep sleep and easing his pain. Landi sighed and padded to her den entrance. Looking out at all the birds flitting around in the sky and the trees. She sighed remembering how she and Ular used to do that before he came back to take his place as the rightful heir of the Eritye Kingdom. He was high king to the Tigeronda Kingdom; Eritye, Jistis, Valtakunta, Odare, Lofsting and Ondre being the six kingdoms. They made up one of the three Empires in Anpi. The Jistis kingdom belonged to the Tigerobra, the Valtakunta belonged to the Ligeronda, Odare belonging to the Jaguarobra, Lofsting belonging to the Cheetahobra and the Ondre belonged to the Leoparonda. Landi sighed again. “Why couldn't we be together?” She said out loud. Her thoughts roaming to how she and Ular had met. She had been out collecting herbs for her stores, when she stumbled upon the three brothers, the youngest had been dangling in Ular's mouth, every rib was visible in the little scrap of fur. She watched them as they stumbled along without even noticing her. The silver one and the dark grey blue one looked healthier than the little cub, but she noticed their exhaustion. She slowly slid out of her place behind the kano berry bush padding toward the three slowly. “Um... Excuse me." She said softly She watched as they spun around with their claws unsheathed and ready to fight. She jumped back cowering in front of them. “I’m sorry. I just wanted to help.” She said glancing up at them. She watched as their claws sheathed and their postures changed. The dark Tigeronda slowly and cautiously padded over to her. The little bundle of fur still dangling from his mouth. He sat the little male cub down and looked up at her. He cleared his throat making it plain to Landi that he obviously hadn't used his voice for quite a while. He cleared his throat again before he tried to speak. “How can you help us?" He squeaked his voice strength at his lowest. He looked at her waiting for an answer. She looked up at the sky, " Well for starters, I can give you shelter from the rain and food." She had told him, watching the smile that lit up his face. Landi shook her head hearing rustling from the bushes. She narrowed her eyes before seeing Phantom step out of the bushes coming towards her. “Phantom; How can I help you on this lovely afternoon?" She asked padding across the clearing to meet him half way. Phantom nodded to her and sat down. "Stephano reported you have a patient that doesn't seem to belong to the Eritye Kingdom, is this true?" He asked before licking his paw and swiping it over the back of his left hood. Landi narrowed her eyes at him. "Tembaga is badly wounded and not to be moved." She growled fiercely. “I’ll admit I've never seen him in the kingdom before, however he is protected by law of the healers and High King Ular." She said looking at the caption of the guard. “Or do you wish to defy that law?" She questioned him. “No Landi. I was simply asking for clarification." Phantom said looking at her, his head down in submission to the healer. “Well it has been clarified." She growled. “You may leave. I must attend to my patient." She said turning her back to him and padded back to her den. She listened to him push through the bushes as she padded into her den seeing Tembaga stirring and in pain. “Don’t move Tembaga.” She said padding back to her stores to get more menenangkan berries. After retrieving them she went back to Tembaga and watched him eat the berries. When he was asleep again she lifted the merendam web off Tembaga’s wound and sighed with relief seeing that the wound had clotted and she could now clean and inspect the wound thoroughly. She pulled the web off completely before getting up and padding to the little stream that ran through her cave. Landi picked up a wad of moss that lay beside the stream and soaked the moss in it. When the moss was good and soaked she took it back to Tembaga where she gently started cleaning Tembaga’s wound. Tembaga slept through the entire cleaning process as Landi knew he would. Landi sat the bloodied moss to the side so she could get a good look at Tembaga’s wound. She winced when she finally saw how deep the wound was. “I need to get him stitched up.” She said to herself. Slowly she padded to the back of her den to the rock ledge that held her stitching materials. She grabbed the kipu web and jahitan jarum stem, carrying it over to Tembaga and laying it down beside him before going back to her store. She sniffed for the minty scent of the arpia voide paste. Finally finding the paste she scooped out a pawful and put it on an olden leaf. She wrapped up the paste in the leaf and took it back to the side of her patient and began stitching him up slowly.
Ular padded into the high stones clearing, exhausted from his travel to see Neraka. His paws ached and throbbed as he stumbled to his den. He was happy to be in his own den again and even happier to hear the flapping of Terbang’s wings. He looked up to the sky looking for the crow in the darkening sky. He finally spotted the crow and lay down to wait for the crow to land. Terbang cawed as he landed next to Ular on the jutting rock that had made a home for the crow for years now. “Welcome home sire.” He said upon landing. “Thank you Terbang. I know you have delivered my messages, but I’m afraid that you’ll have to take a message to Stephano and Phantom at first light. Tell them I at least a day and a half to recuperate and gain my strength again.” He told the crow. “Yes sire. I shall leave at dawn to deliver the messages. Sire Landi had a reply to your message.” Terbang said waiting for Ular to ask for the return message. Ular looked at Terbang with a raised brow. “Really? Well then tell me.” Ular said quickly. Terbang nodded. “Landi said that she still wants to be your friend and she loves you and always will.” Terbang repeated the message as it had been told to him. Ular nodded and laid his head on his paws, closing his eyes. “Thank you Terbang…” He said trailing off as he drifted into slumber.
Kesa sat up slowly when she heard a voice at the entrance to her heavily guarded prison. She watched as Kurjak padded into view. “Kurjak.” She rasped as the dark Tigerobra padded closer with his limp. He came to see her often. “Hello young Princess.” He said bowing his head to her before getting closer to inspect her healing wounds. “How is the sight in your lift eye?” He asked her as he did every time he visited. “It is healed completely. I can finally see clearly.” She told him. Kurjak padded closer so that he could check her scars. He smiled seeing that she had no scars. “Good no scarring. I’m glad, but that means I’ll be coming to check on you less now.” He told her as he padded around to look at her right flank also seeing no scars. Kesa looked at him. “Wait? Why won’t you be coming by as much?” She asked with a panicked tone. Kurjak looked at her. “Because your wounds are all healed.” He told her watching her face fall in sadness. “But I’ll still come by when I can.” He said quickly. “Alright.” She said turning her back on him and lying down. She put her head on her paws and let out a huff of air. She really didn’t have a choice in the matter, seeing that she was the prisoner and he was only here to heal her, nothing more. She fell into a fitful sleep not hearing him exit or anything else but the screams of her nightmare.
